Happy P. Day!! Wait. It's Tuesday!!!? Well, yesterday we had a giant 6 hour meeting about....iPads! Yay!! These things have been a blast. The next step is calendars, area books and pretty much no more paper in the California San Jose Mission!! That means all of those records from 2002...yeah, we get to create electronic copies. Yay!

Remember how I spoke at the Stanford 2nd ward on Mothers day? Well just two days ago, I was able to speak on Fathers Day at the Stanford 1st ward!! This was a tender mercy because  I was able to proclaim the love and admiration that I have for both my earthly parents. I love them so much.

"Fathers are so special with a very special love.
  1. They watch us and protect us.
They guide us and direct us
    Back to our home above"
  2. I spoke about miracles and how they are truly all around us!! Here is a bit:

"There are so many miracles around us:
Miracles of being forgiven,
Miracle of the Priesthood
Miracle of Resurrection
Miracle of the Restoration
Miracle of Fathers
Miracle of the Atonement
Miracle of the Book of Mormon
Miracle of a Prophets
Miracles of Missionary
Life birth
Waking up on time
Getting a job
Not burning the lasagne

Now, I will use the word miracle and blessing interchangeably blessing.

Miracles are wonders, marvels, because of the effect produced on those who saw them.
Many of them were also symbolic, teaching such divine truths as the result of sin and the cure of sin; the value of faith; the curse of impurity; and the law of love. Miracles were and are a response to faith and its best encouragement. They were never wrought without prayer.
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

I know that miracles have not ceased! God is the same yesterday today and forever. My mission is a miracle, the blessing of having a wonderful dad is miracle, the Book of Mormon is a miracle and I can go on and on.

I love this work and am so grateful to be apart of it!
The church is true!!

May 11, 2015 Change, Miracles, Mother's Day

Hello and Happy Mothers Day to so so so many of the wonderful Mothers that I love!

My Mothers Day started with giving a talk at Stanford. yes. at Stanford. It was intimating to say the least, but I found it a privilege and blessing to speak in front of so many brilliant people on such a special day.

#miracleshappen

Suzanne is getting baptized on Saturday!! After 22 years of searching, she has decided to be baptized. Sister Triana and I could not be more excited to be her guides. We love being missionaries and love seeing peoples lives transform as they apply the principles found in the gospel and put off the natrual man.

Mosiah 3:19- For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

I have learned MANY things on this mission but something that has changed my life, and may seem like common or basic knowledge that you become who you want to become. No matter circumstance or position  you become what you want.

That statement is something one of my previous companions said to me and I will never ever forget it. Although becoming what I want is something I have always been taught and even have told people myself but, It finally clicked. I can literally become who I want; And this morning during my personal study, more on this topic was relieved to me. Not only do I become who I want, but I can become that person when I want to as well.

You may be laughing because it's so simple right? yeah, not for hard headed Sister Carter.

I think about Suzanne and how for almost 70 years, lived her life the way she wanted, and now for some reason has now decided that she wants to change. This is a blessing and miracle, but maybe we can apply the principle of becoming who we want right now and choose to not put it off for later, no matter how convenient.

I was reading a talk given by Clayton M.Christensen titled Why I Belong Why I Believe (which actually just helped to convert a U.S. senator). In this article he describes his reasoning for belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an organized institution. He says "because of the way the church is organized, it puts opportunities to help others in my path every day. It facilitates my efforts – and in some instances almost compels me – to practice Christianity, not just believe in it...and of course his reasoning for believing in the doctrines are because they are true.

He goes on to talk about how we help each other in the church, but also how we learn from each other. No person is greater than another. He describes and instance when he learned something from someone, who in other religions may be considered less than him because of his position in the church. He says "... about a decade ago I was serving as the bishop, or lay minister, of the congregation of college students in the Boston area. We had assigned a college sophomore to give a sermon about repentance in our service on a particular Sunday. I still remember his key point: “We often view repentance as a slow process. It isn’t. Change is instantaneous. It is not changing that takes so much time.” I had been struggling to overcome a particular bad habit; and I resolved that I would change my behavior right then and there – to quit “not changing.” Where else but in this church could a young, inexperienced student have taught a bishop such a profound lesson?"

Now back to my point--I have discovered that not only can I become what I want, but I can become that person when I want to. All of us can. Repentance is not slow. We can decided right now. Change is instantaneous.

Of course we are not perfect, we make mistakes. We fall and mess up, but we can get back up and try again, in that very moment. That is the miracle of repentance, and forgiveness. That is the miracle of the Atonement.

I am grateful for my Savior in allowing me and all of us to try and try and try again.

-I love the Lord, and you all!

November 7, 2014

Happy P-day!  We went to Jamba Juice today so that was a bit of a change.

Halloween was a wonderful time.  Inviting everyone to feast upon the words of Christ was a blast.  Trunk-or-treating was great with the LIvermore wards and participating in both wards in their Haolloween activities was certainly productive.  I think I mentioned this before, but both of the ward that Sister Gregerson and I cover (Livermore 1st and 4th) decided to hold their Halloween parties at the same time.  We invited LOTS of our investigators as well as part member families and many of them showed up.  The 4th ward party was held on a giant field.  There was a cake-walk, a chili cook-off, trunk-or-treating and lots of other fun activities.  The 1st ward all met at the church and had a party.  There was trunk-or-treating in the parking lot.

(This is a random trunk-or-treat picture to give you the idea)

Sister Gregerson and I knew it would be difficult but decided that we would try to spend 30 minutes at each party goig back and forth.  Of course, it didn't turn out that way.  We got stuck at the 4th ward party the whole time because of the trunk-or-treating and the chili cook off.  Sad part is, is that two of the investigators that we invited to the 1st ward party showed up and we never saw them!  It was very sad.  We felt very bad.

Now let me tell you a bit about these two investigators that we invited. . .

Sister Gregerson and I like contacting.  We are pretty good at it too if I dare to say.  Almost two weeks from this day we were contacting in a neighborhood called Leahy Square.

We decided we would knock on the door of a girl Najaya who at one point was getting the discussions.  We knocked on her door to be greeted by her mom who just walked away not saying anything.  Najaya then came to the door and quickly realize who we were said she was busy because she had homework.  We quietly told her that we could help and her face lit up!  She ran away and came back with all of her bags and books in hand throwing them in our arms.  We walked over to the benches in her apartment complex and started.

Ever since that day of helping Najaya with her homework we have been teaching her along with seven of herneighborhood friends, two of which we invited to the Halloween party and came.

Turns out Najaya had a baptismal date for February and ended up being dropped because she was not keeping her commitments.  As all of the neighborhood children started to see us there every other day, they too would come out bringing their homework.   Sister Gregerson and I quickly used this as a teaching opportunity and invited the children to call a number on the back of a pass along card that we gave them for a finding faith in Jesus Christ video.

Two of the children in particular Elaijay and Elijah are progressing.  They have been going to church activities and thank goodness for members.

Elaiyah and Elijah don't have too much support at home but are getting lots of love at church.  In their prayers they thank their Heavenly Father for feeling and being accepted at church.

I love these children.  I am so excited about how they are progressing.

Lots of miracles; lots of blessings.

Miracle:  We still get fed every single night

Miracle:  Elijah wants to be baptized before Thanksgiving.

All my love,

Sister Carter

I heard that sweet Brother Aegerter passed away. I love him SO much. I will miss his smile but await the day to be able to see him again! I am happy to know that he is with his wife!! I bet that was a wonderful reunion. Someone please give his family my regards.

My companion is Gluten AND Sugar free, she's super allergic. That means I'm Gluten and Sugar free OR, that I eat everything she can't. Needless to say, Halloween was good for me....ha

Halloween was SO fun! Sister Gregerson and I decorated our trunk with teeth around the top, and a long lounge coming out. We were of course passing out candy, but also pass along cards with pictures of Christ inviting people to "Feast upon the Words of Christ".

Candy is sweet but the words of Christ are ohhh so much more sweeter, filling and delicious :) We were in charge of judging the chili cook off. Yes. Me and her. She and I. It was allll up to us. I don't know how it is in other wards but in the California Livermore 4th ward the Chili cook-off was  BIG deal and it was, truthfully, really scary judging the 16 bowls of all very good,  but very different chills.

We narrowed it down to 5 general winners and left. Actually ran.

The Holiday ended with making doughnuts at The Paradises. They are a wonderful and strong family. Sister Gregerson and I were left to pass them out to all of the trick-or-treaters and of course, in missionary style we passed out pictures of Christ as well! It was very interesting having people yell at us hours before that it was Satan's birthday and things of that nature to then be passing out doughnuts and pictures of Christ. I liked being able to remind people of what matters most, and truly that all things, even Halloween can be centered on our Savior :)

Sorry this is short. Read my blog ;)

We've got two more baptismal dates for an 11  year old Elaiyah and a 13 year old Elijah!!!! So wonderful!

Miracles ARE occurring. Our Savior lives and loves us.

I love you all,
I feel your prayers,
Sister Carter
